George South is a Managing Director in the Restructuring & Special Situations Group at PJT Partners, based in New York.
Mr. South joined PJT in June 2016 after spending 25 years practicing corporate restructuring law at major law firms, based in New York.
Prior to joining PJT, Mr. South was a partner at DLA Piper, King & Spalding and Fried Frank Harris Shriver & Jacobson. In his previous law practice, Mr. South was involved in both in- and out-of-court restructurings and the rehabilitation of financially distressed businesses and municipalities. He regularly represented distressed companies, creditors’ committees, bondholders’ committees, bond insurers, debtor-in-possession lenders and hedge and equity funds seeking to invest in and/or acquire the assets and businesses of financially troubled companies. Mr. South represented parties in numerous out-of-court restructurings, chapter 11 cases and chapter 9 municipal bankruptcies.
Mr. South has been recommended by The Legal 500 United States as providing “invaluable strategic advice,” is rated by Martindale-Hubbell as AV Preeminent, its highest rating, and has been named a New York Super Lawyer from 2013-2016.
Mr. South received a BA from Hofstra University and a JD with distinction from Hofstra University School of Law.
