Scott Mates is a Managing Director in the Restructuring and Special Situations Group at PJT Partners, based in New York.
Since joining PJT Partners’ predecessor firm Blackstone in 2011, Mr. Mates has assisted in advising on a variety of restructuring transactions and strategic advisory assignments. Examples of Mr. Mates’s public assignments include Arch Coal, BCBGMAXAZRIA, Brock Group, Denon and Marantz, Harvey Gulf, Hostess, Indianapolis Downs, Linn Energy, MBIA re: Residential Capital and Sumitomo re: Ambatovy. Before joining Blackstone, Mr. Mates worked as a distressed research analyst at Southpaw Asset Management. Prior to Southpaw, Mr. Mates was an Associate at Citi Private Equity, where he evaluated and executed private equity and mezzanine debt investments in a variety of industries. Mr. Mates began his career as an Analyst at Salomon Smith Barney, helping advise companies in the industrial and technology industries.
Mr. Mates received a BS in Business Administration from Babson College, where he graduated summa cum laude from the Honors Program, and an MBA in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated as a Palmer Scholar.
